Malaysian online retail is competitive and margin-thin, and a large share of volume goes through regional marketplaces rather than through the retailer own storefront.

Data protection and the practical route
Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 applies to personal data processed in commercial transactions, and has historically restricted transfer outside Malaysia except to prescribed jurisdictions or where specified conditions are met. Amendments in recent years have moved the regime closer to international norms, including on breach notification and data protection officers.
The practical route is the same one we propose everywhere and it sidesteps most of the question: do not transfer production personal data at all. Develop against anonymised or synthetic datasets, keep production in your own environment, and restrict access to named individuals under logged conditions where it is genuinely required for diagnosis.
Where transfer is genuinely necessary, contractual safeguards plus documented security measures are the mechanism. We sign them as standard.
