Free tools for people who run business websites

Things we built because we needed them ourselves. All of them run in your browser, none require an account, and none send what you type anywhere.

Why we publish these

Tools are a better portfolio than a portfolio

Agency portfolios are curated by definition. Every studio shows its best three projects, describes its own contribution generously, and quotes whichever number flatters most. You cannot verify any of it, and you certainly cannot verify the engineering underneath — the part that determines whether the site you buy is still maintainable in three years.

A tool is different because you can use it. The SERP preview either measures correctly or it does not, and you can check it against a live Google result in thirty seconds. Our Chrome extensions are published on a store that reviews permissions, and rated by users who have no relationship with us. That is a far more honest signal than a case study, and it is available to you before you speak to anyone here.

There is a second reason, which is that these came out of our own work. We needed a snippet checker that measured pixels rather than characters because the character-count rule kept being wrong on real titles. We needed image conversion that did not involve uploading client assets to somebody else's server. Building the thing properly and then publishing it costs little more than building it for ourselves, and it means the next person with the same problem does not have to.

None of these ask for an email address, and none of them are a funnel. If a free tool is useful and you never contact us, that is a perfectly good outcome — this page exists because it is the kind of thing we would want from a supplier we were evaluating.

How these work

  • Everything runs in your browser — nothing you type is transmitted.
  • No account, no email capture, no usage limits.
  • The Chrome extensions are independently reviewed and publicly rated.
  • Built for our own work first, published because they were worth publishing.
Getting a useful number

How to use the cost calculator without fooling yourself

The cost calculator is the tool people spend longest with, and the number it produces is only as honest as the inputs. Two habits make it useful rather than reassuring. The first is to answer for the project you actually need rather than the one you hope you can afford — selecting a smaller build type to get a smaller number tells you nothing you did not already know, and every quote you subsequently receive will be a surprise.

The second is to take the integrations question seriously. It is the single largest driver of cost in real projects and the one buyers most consistently underestimate. A contact form is trivial. A form that creates a record in your CRM, checks stock against your ERP and fires a WhatsApp confirmation is three separate pieces of engineering, each with its own authentication, error handling and failure behaviour. If you already run other business systems and expect the website to talk to them, say so, and expect the number to move.

The calculator produces a range rather than a figure deliberately, because anyone quoting a single number before understanding your integrations is either padding heavily to cover what they do not yet know, or is about to discover it and come back for more. Treat the bottom of the range as what the work costs if everything is straightforward, and the top as what it costs if your data needs cleaning and three departments must approve each stage.

When you are ready, it sends the full scope to us on WhatsApp so the first conversation starts from something concrete rather than from a blank page. There is no obligation attached to that and we do not run a follow-up sequence afterwards.

Four habits

  • Answer for the project you need, not the budget you have.
  • Count every system the site must exchange data with.
  • Assume your existing data needs more cleaning than you think.
  • Read the range as best case to realistic case, not as a midpoint.
Our position on privacy

Why these tools do their work on your machine

Almost every free online tool has the same business model: you upload something, it processes it on a server, and the operator gains a copy of whatever you sent plus a record of who sent it. For a holiday photograph that is harmless. For a product shot before launch, a signed contract, a medical document or anything covered by a client agreement, it is a disclosure you did not intend to make and usually did not notice making.

Browsers have been capable of doing most of this work locally for years — image encoding and decoding, text measurement, PDF generation, even machine-learning inference now run perfectly well on the device. The reason so few tools take that route is not technical. It is that local processing produces no data to retain, and data is the product.

So the tools here run in your browser. The SERP preview measures text using the browser’s own canvas, which is why it works with no network connection once the page has loaded and why nothing you type is ever transmitted. Several of our Chrome extensions take the same approach — image conversion and background removal both process entirely on your device, which is slower on older hardware than a server would be and is the trade we deliberately chose.

The same principle runs through our client work. When a business asks us to automate document handling for patient records, employee data or customer financial information, the architecture we propose keeps that data inside their own infrastructure rather than sending it to whichever service was cheapest per call. That is occasionally more expensive to build and it is the only arrangement that survives a serious compliance conversation.

Questions

About these tools

If you need something these do not cover, or want a second opinion across a whole site rather than one page, that is what our SEO and engineering work is for.

Yes. No account, no email capture, no usage limit and no paid tier waiting behind a feature. They exist because we needed them for our own work, and publishing them costs us very little more than building them privately would have. If one is useful to you and you never contact us, that is a perfectly good outcome.

No. The SERP preview measures text using your browser’s own canvas, so everything stays on your machine — it continues working with no network connection once the page has loaded. The cost calculator only transmits anything if you choose to send the scope to us on WhatsApp, which is an explicit action you take at the end.

Not for the tools on this site — they run in any modern browser. The seven Chrome extensions are separate and do require installing from the Chrome Web Store, where each has been reviewed against Google’s permission and privacy requirements and carries public ratings you can read before deciding.

Yes, including commercial and agency work, with no attribution required. Several of the extensions were built precisely because agency workflows needed them — converting client images without uploading them to a third-party service, or auditing a page before handing it over.

When we build something for our own work that seems worth publishing. We would rather ship a handful of tools that do one thing properly than a directory of thin ones. If there is something you keep needing and cannot find a trustworthy version of, tell us — several of these started as exactly that kind of request.
