Offshore web and software development for US companies
American clients have been buying Indian engineering for twenty years and do not need the model explained. What they want established is narrower: who is doing the work, when they are reachable, and whether the code will be maintainable by somebody else afterwards.
We already deliver here, and we are straightforward about how
To be clear about the delivery model rather than leaving you to discover it: every engineer is in Kolkata and we hold no United States entity or office. We state that once, plainly, because suppliers who register a local virtual address to appear established are misleading you and it is worth knowing which kind you are dealing with. Everything above is a claim you can test on the first call. Read what clients say.
The United States is the deepest offshore buyer market in the world and the most competitive. That cuts both ways for a studio like ours. Nobody needs convincing that Indian engineers are capable, which removes an entire conversation. But American buyers have also been disappointed before, usually by choosing on rate from a marketplace, and they carry that experience into the first call.
So this page is written for a buyer who is not evaluating offshore in principle. It covers how we handle the clock, which is the genuine operational constraint, what we cost in dollars, the practical tax and contract questions your finance team will raise, and where our experience transfers to American problems.
The clock deserves the first section rather than a footnote, because it is the thing most likely to make an engagement fail and the thing most suppliers are least straight about.
The clock, and what we actually do about it
There is no natural overlap between an Indian working day and an American one worth calling an overlap. Eastern time is ten and a half hours behind India, Pacific thirteen and a half. Our standard day ends as an East Coast morning begins and misses the West Coast entirely.
Any supplier telling you the time difference is not an issue has either not thought about it or is not being straight with you. It is the single largest operational constraint in serving American clients from India and it has to be designed around rather than described away.
What we do is staff a dedicated US shift. Engineers on an afternoon-to-night roster in India, covering roughly nine in the morning to one in the afternoon Eastern, which is about four hours of genuine live overlap. For West Coast accounts the shift extends later. That is a rota decision with a real cost to us, and it is the only honest way to give an American client live availability.
Inside that window you get the same things a domestic supplier offers: a standup, live code review, a call to resolve something rather than three paragraphs and a day of latency. Outside it, work continues and a written handover lands before your morning.
The compensating advantage is genuine and American clients consistently mention it. Work happens overnight from your perspective. You end the day having raised three things and start the next with them addressed, which is a rhythm teams generally stop wanting to give up.

What we cost in dollars
US agency and consultancy rates are the highest in the world, driven by salaries competing with technology firms and by overheads that have nothing to do with code quality. These are indicative bands for original work with us.
Compare total cost, not hourly rate
An hourly comparison flatters offshore more than the real total does. Offshore engagements need more written specification and more asynchronous clarification, and occasionally something is built to a misunderstanding and redone. Allow for that and the saving is still large. Ignore it and choose on rate alone, and you will get the experience that gave offshore its reputation in this market.

The practical questions your finance and legal teams will ask
American engagements raise a consistent set of administrative questions that have straightforward answers, and having them ready saves a procurement cycle.
Tax withholding comes first. We are a foreign entity providing services performed outside the United States, and we supply a completed W-8BEN-E so your accounts payable team can document that correctly. Most US clients need this before the first invoice can be paid, and suppliers who cannot produce it create weeks of delay.
Payment is by wire, ACH or credit card against invoice, in dollars, staged against milestones rather than taken in advance.
On data, there is no single federal privacy statute, which surprises buyers expecting a European equivalent. What applies depends on your state and sector: California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and others have comprehensive consumer privacy laws with differing obligations, and HIPAA, GLBA or FERPA may sit on top. Cross-border transfer is generally less restricted than from Europe, so the constraint is usually contractual. We sign your data processing agreement and complete your vendor security questionnaire rather than substituting our own paperwork.
And for most builds the cleanest answer is that we do not need production personal data at all. Development against anonymised or synthetic datasets removes most of the exposure and is rarely harder to build against, which we propose by default rather than waiting to be asked.
None of this is legal or tax advice. Your own advisers should review any specific arrangement.

White-label delivery for US agencies
A substantial share of American agency delivery is subcontracted, usually quietly, and it is one of the arrangements we are most comfortable with because expectations are unambiguous on both sides.
You own the client, the brief, the design direction and the commercial relationship entirely. We supply engineering inside your repository, following your conventions, your branch strategy and your definition of done. We appear nowhere unless you want us to, and we will not contact your client during the engagement or approach them afterwards. That non-solicitation is a contract term rather than an assurance.
What it solves for an agency is capacity without permanent cost. Winning a large build means declining it, hiring and carrying the cost through the next quiet quarter, or subcontracting. For an independent studio the third is usually the only option that does not distort the business.
We are most useful on the engineering-heavy end: application work, integrations, performance rescue, and taking a sold design whose technical implications nobody costed and making it work. Bring us in before design sign-off and we will flag the parts that will be expensive to build while it is still a decision rather than a problem.

Where our experience transfers to American problems
It is more useful to say where our experience genuinely applies than to claim general capability across a market this large.
Industrial and operational systems transfer most directly. A Midwest manufacturer or a Texas oilfield services firm whose job costing is retrospective, whose stock diverges from the system, and whose monthly report is assembled by hand has structurally the same problem as our Indian industrial clients. The regulatory wrapper differs; the operational problem does not, and it is the easiest thing for us to prove with a small first module.
eCommerce at real catalogue scale is second: storefront performance as the catalogue grows, faceted navigation that survives combined filters, and the integration between store, warehouse and accounting that nobody budgeted for at launch.
Internal business applications are third, particularly the unglamorous kind that replaces a business running on linked spreadsheets with something that has a database, an audit trail and a login.
Where we are weaker and will say so: anything requiring detailed knowledge of US regulatory specifics such as HIPAA implementation detail, SOC 2 audit preparation, state tax calculation or payroll. We can build to a specification written by someone who knows those. We should not be writing it.

Starting in a way that manages your risk
We would rather not take a large first project from a new American client, and a supplier who pushes you straight into one is managing their pipeline rather than your risk.
A bounded first engagement tells you more than any reference call: a performance and Core Web Vitals audit with the fixes implemented, one integration off the backlog, a single template built to your design, or a two-week automation of something currently done by hand. Two to four weeks.
What you are actually evaluating is not whether we can code. It is whether we write clearly, whether we raise problems early rather than presenting them at the end, whether work arrives when promised, and whether the code is something your own engineers could pick up. None of that is visible in a portfolio and all of it decides whether a long engagement works.
Insist on working software in a deployed environment from the first week rather than status reports. Status reports are where struggling suppliers hide; an environment you can open yourself is where they cannot.

5 markets, each with a different problem
These are not the same page with the place name swapped. The industries, the buying pattern and the work we are asked for differ materially between them, which is why each has its own.
Financial services, media, professional services and the densest agency market in the country. Buyers here are sophisticated, procurement is formal, and the alternative to offshore is a local rate that makes many worthwhile projects unviable.
The most demanding technical market in the world and the most expensive. Buyers already employ strong engineers, so what they purchase is capacity, a specialist discipline, or a bridge while they recruit — not a vendor to explain technology to them.
Energy, logistics, construction, healthcare and a fast-growing technology base around Austin and Dallas. More operationally minded than the coasts, and the market where our Indian industrial experience transfers most directly in America.
Property, hospitality, marine, logistics and a large base of owner-operated businesses, plus the commercial gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. Decisions move faster and budgets are more modest than in New York or California.
Manufacturing, distribution, insurance and commodities across a large industrial hinterland. Conservative, evidence-driven buying and long supplier relationships once earned, which suits a studio that keeps clients for a decade.

Enquiries now arrive with specifications already attached
Our previous website had a stock photograph and a paragraph about commitment to quality. It brought us nothing in four years. Sayak spent two days on our shop floor before drawing anything, and what they built lists our machine capacities, tolerance ranges and certifications in a way a purchasing officer can actually evaluate. The change was not in the number of enquiries so much as in their quality — people now call having already decided we can do the job, so the conversation starts at commercial terms.
They talked us out of half of what we asked for
We went in with a long list of features we were certain we needed. They built roughly half of it and explained clearly why the rest would be maintained forever and used by nobody. Six months on they were right about every item. The store is fast on phones, which matters because that is where almost all of our traffic comes from, and our team updates the catalogue ourselves without calling anyone.
Parallel running for a full month meant nobody had to trust it blind
Replacing a system a clinic depends on is frightening, and most vendors we spoke to proposed a weekend cutover. Sayak ran the new system alongside our registers for a full month and only switched once the numbers matched every day. Our front desk staff were part of the design rather than being trained at the end, which is why they actually use it. Report preparation that took a person most of a morning now takes minutes.
What United States buyers ask us
If yours is not here, ask it directly. We would rather tell you we are a poor fit in the first call than in month three.
By staffing a dedicated US shift rather than pretending the clock works. Engineers on an afternoon-to-night roster in India cover roughly 09:00 to 13:00 Eastern, about four hours of genuine live overlap, extended later for West Coast accounts. Inside that window you get standups, live code review and calls; outside it, work continues and a written handover lands before your morning.
A corporate site with a CMS typically runs $25,000 to $90,000 from a US agency and $1,450 to $4,800 with us. A dedicated engineer is $12,000 to $22,000 a month locally against $2,000 to $4,200. Compare total cost rather than hourly rate: offshore carries coordination overhead, and the saving remains large once you allow for it.
Yes, completed, before the first invoice. We are a foreign entity providing services performed outside the United States, and your accounts payable team needs that form to document withholding correctly. Suppliers who cannot produce it create weeks of delay at exactly the wrong point in an engagement.
No. We have no US entity, office or phone number, and we will not list a virtual address to appear established. Work is delivered from Kolkata on a staffed US shift and we invoice from India in dollars. If a US-registered counterparty is a hard procurement requirement, we cannot meet it and will say so in the first call.
There is no single federal statute, which surprises buyers expecting a GDPR equivalent. What applies depends on your state and sector, and cross-border transfer is generally less restricted than from Europe, so the constraint is usually contractual. We sign your DPA and complete your vendor security questionnaire. For most builds we propose developing against anonymised or synthetic data so no production personal information transfers at all.
Yes, and it is a large share of our American work. You keep the client, the brief and the commercial terms; we work in your repository under your conventions and your brand, appearing nowhere unless you want us to. The non-solicitation is a contract term. We are strongest on the engineering-heavy end: applications, integrations and performance work.
